Introducing The Music Elixir

So here it is: the beginning of something special. After years of procrastination and a bit of self-doubt, I've finally taken initiative and put thoughts into action with my first "official" blog. Music is something that has always been an integral part of my life, and it saddens me to see the growing popularity of the excessive B.S. that has recently been flooding the music mainstream. From what I've observed, the problem seems to come from the lack of appreciation for music, the lack of courage to be different, and the boxed-in or brainwashed minds of the masses. What we have now is a handful of big corporations force-feeding us their idea of "good music", and as numbers prove, we have bought into just about all of it. It is a dystopia that has bred countless artists who find it necessary to constantly step outside of themselves in order to be successful leading to an overall stagnation in creativity (i.e. duplicated trends), and inevitably a significant downgrade in the quality of music.

Too often do talented artists go unrecognized and quality music gets drowned out by garbage. By starting this blog, I hope to help even out the playing field a bit. The internet has already made that initial push towards artists regaining control and promotion of their art. Now I aim to add a little more force behind this push. While I realize that the initial concept of this blog is far from revolutionary, I believe in its purpose and hopefully it will grow into something great. Its musical ignorance that keeps us from even being able to have a true appreciation for music. I mean, how could we possibly appreciate what we know nothing of? Hopefully this blog can acquaint people with a broader range and an alternate perspective of music (popular and indie) than what is out there by default. Maybe then the appreciation and passion can spread and be re-ignited.

Being the big Hip Hop head that I am, you'll notice that I blog about it a lot. I've also been writing for a while before I finally decided to create this blog site, so I will also be posting some things that may seem a bit outdated, but relevant nonetheless. I'll start with the oldest to most recent and try to post as often as possible to keep the site up-to-date. Enjoy...

  1. Go Dre! This is long overdue! I am looking forward to reading all of your thoughts. Thank you for caring enough about music and "us" to try to make a difference. That is what it takes to make a change!
