Music Monday Jam: The Foreign Exchange - "Authenticity"

You can never go wrong with The Foreign ExchangeAuthenticity has certainly been one of the more heavier played albums in my library for the past few months.  Visuals for the title track (one of eleven jams) up top.   Also, be sure to check out my featured blurb for my favorite song from the album at NPR Music.

WATCH: Buke & Gass - Tiny Desk Concert

Imagine this: for three months you work in an office alongside vehement music snobs enthusiasts whose job is to lend their impeccable musical tastes and expertise to the world.   The focal point of all work and discussion is music and, about three times per week, artists come perform no more than about ten feet away from your desk.  It's quite the surreal experience for a music head like me who just so happens to take up amateur blogging as a hobby; it's almost too good to be true.  It's  also the type of environment that fosters some noteworthy music discovery.  One in particular that made a lasting impression on me came when I witnessed the above Tiny Desk performance by Buke and Gass.  I was only halfway paying attention as I worked vigorously, likely finishing World Cafe pages for the week.  But as I passively listened, I couldn't help but notice striking similarities between the duo's peculiar and edgy take on folk music and the quirky tunefulness and off kilter soul of indie rock band Dirty Projectors.  Despite the similarities, though, their homemade distorted acoustics coupled with Arone Dyer's waling, melodic voice is more than enough to set Buke and Gass in a lane all their own and in my list of new favorites.  Check out the visuals for "Page Break", a stand out form their debut album Riposte, after the jump.
